“Atmosphere is a beautifully-written love story that highlights the challenges that women and queer people faced not that long ago. Jumping back and forth between timelines, the story follows Joan, a sharp, determined woman fighting to become one of the first female astronauts, while also navigating the risks of loving another woman in an era that was less than favorable towards such relationships. The result is a story that that is filled with humor, tension, and emotional depth.”

“Atmosphere: A Love Story will absolutely break your heart. However, it does so because the characters are so real. The story starts with a literal bang and then sucks you in with incredible character development. I couldn't stop reading as I got to the end of the book despite the tears streaming down my face and I have a feeling you won't be able to, either.”

“Something about reading a period piece from when you were in college that is a little sobering, but this book just rocks. Set against the backdrop of NASA finally allowing women into the astronaut corps during the Space Shuttle program, Reid delivers characters who are compelling - flawed in many ways, but you root for them just the same. The pacing is perfect - brisk without being rushed, enough detail to deliver the story but not so much that it ever gets bogged down. Of the three of her books I have read, this one is the cleanest narrative - direct, complete, nothing wasted. Couldn't put it down. ”
