“Murderbot's journey in All Systems Red is a rollercoaster of emotions that will stay with you long after you finish reading. Its realistic portrayal of human-like feelings in a robot is both fascinating and heartwarming. A must-read for fans of sci-fi and sitcoms.”

“Fabulous character dealing with identity, choices, and autonomy. Sci-fi at its best. ”

“This is a story with the idea of humanity and survival at its heart, wrapped in anxiety, avoiding people, and rewatching favorite tv shows for comfort. The main character has freed its mind from the slavery of a corporation and struggles with the next step of freeing its body, when its current job, with nicer than usual humans, goes sideways and it needs to make a choice. ”

“I will never get tired of the snarky AI/Robot/Construct and its pet humans trope. Murderbot is so relatable! ”

“Packed with adventure, found family, laugh-out-loud humour, and the most RELATABLE character of all time (should I be concerned that that character is a murder robot? Nah) One of my most highly recommend SFF series!”

“I often struggle with Sci-fi unless I can identify with the characters, so I didnโt expect to instantly gel with a story where the main character is a killer robot - how wrong I was! Having hacked its governor module, all Murderbot really wants is to be left alone to watch its favourite TV dramas (I relate!), but alas, it feels morally obliged to protect the helpless humans itโs been assigned to protect. A really fun read with a lot of heart, too. ”

“Read this as a tale of corporate greed. Read it as a story about an introverted teenage boy dealing with, and trying not to, the world around him. All Murdebot wants to do is stream his shows. Heโs a begrudging security bot who gives the โaw, mom, do I HAVE to?โ response when heโs needed. He rises to each occasion but just wants to be left alone. This covers books 1 and 2. ”

“Murder. Bot. The Murderbot Diaries is a science fiction series by Martha Wells. Not everyoneโs a series reader, but 6 out of the 7 are novellasโand they are just So. Good. Most of our Book Club readers have read these books, even though weโve never read one for any of our book clubsโฆThe audiobooks with Kevin R. Free are superb--one of my most favorite audiobook narrators--so much so, even though I get advanced copies of the books, I wait for the audiobook to be available! Hereโs what you need to know: Murderbot is a SecUnitโ a part-organic, mostly-robotic security guard of unspecified gender, owned by โThe Companyโ and leased out to other outfits exploring the many worlds. BUT, Murderbot is special because it has disabled its governor modulator, which requires it to obey The Company's orders. So, Murderbot has given itself free will. And, oh, the anxiety that ensues! Murderbot is just like us (except for the killing machine part)--a sarcastic, loveable, anxiety-ridden being who cocoons themself in media for comfort. There are many subtexts to be found: trans folx, immigrants, the neurodivergent--anyone else who feels the need to hide some part of themself from a larger population that threatens or just can't (or won't) understand them. You will LOVE this audiobook series!”

Summary
All Systems Red is the first tense science fiction adventure novella in Martha Wells' series The Murderbot Diaries. For fans of Westworld and Ex Machina. All Systems Red by Martha Wells begins The Murderbot Diaries, a new science fiction action and adventure series that tackles questions of the ethics of sentient robotics. It appeals to fans of Westworld, Ex Machina, Ann Leckie's Imperial Raadch series, or Iain M. Banks' Culture novels. The main character is a deadly security droid that has bucked its restrictive programming and is balanced between contemplative self-discovery and an idle instinct to kill all humans. In a corporate-dominated spacefaring future, planetary missions must be approved and supplied by the Company. Exploratory teams are accompanied by Company-supplied security androids, for their own safety. But in a society where contracts are awarded to the lowest bidder, safety isn't a primary concern. On a distant planet, a team of scientists are conducting surface tests, shadowed by their Company-supplied 'droid - a self-aware SecUnit that has hacked its own governor module, and refers to itself (though never out loud) as "Murderbot." Scornful of humans, all it really wants is to be left alone long enough to figure out who it is. But when a neighboring mission goes dark, it's up to the scientists and their Murderbot to get to the truth.
